Abstract:An overarching objective of this project is to increase the understanding of the effect of polycarboxylate (PC) high-range water-reducers (HRWR) on the performance of concrete mixtures, with a special focus on concrete mixtures that will be used in precast concrete beam applications. The motivation for this research was based upon the results of Interagency Contract (IAC) No. 463MTIA034: Evaluation of Long-Term Durability of Concrete, which addresses potential mechanisms for unexplained cracking in girders cast at Texas precast plants, typically appearing 18–24 months after casting.
