Abstract:The Ohio Department of Public Safety is pleased to present the 2010 Ohio Traffic Crash Facts Book, an in-depth highway safety profile and analysis compiled from data supplied by law enforcement agencies across the state. This annual report provides a comprehensive look at driving habits on ohio's roads. It is also crucial to the Ohio Department of Public Safety and local law enforcement agencies as they determine priorities and allocate resources to improve highway safety in Ohio. In 2010, the state recorded 300,164 total traffic crashes, which is an increase of 1,518 over 2009. Traffic deaths rose moderately with 1,080 deaths reported in 985 crashes. In 2009, the state reported a historically low number of traffic-related deaths with 1,022 killed in 944 crashes. Fatal crashes involving alcohol remained nearly the same with close to 40 percent of alcohol-related crashes in 2010, compared to 38 percent in 2009.
