Simplification and standardization of the seismic design processes for typical Alabama bridges has been investigated and developed in this research. A number of design tools have been developed to reduce the analysis complexity and time demands on bridge designers. These tools can be used to simplify and standardize the seismic design process due to the fact that the hazard in Alabama ranges from minimal to moderate. The parametric studies and research completed in the project has developed guidelines and simplified design methods for determining the fundamental period of vibration, displacement ductility for short columns, ductile detailing requirements for columns, substructure-to-superstructure connections and end diaphragm design for steel girder bridges.
