A transect of 20 radar streamflow gages has been installed on TxDOT bridges located on or near Interstate Highway 10, with gages located from west of San Antonio to the Louisiana border. The highest concentration of gages is east of Houston where I-10 is particularly flood prone. A cloud-based big data system is used to combine streamflow data from the TxDOT gages with real-time forecasts from the National Water Model to provide real-time flood forecasting along I-10 and a foundation for flood risk assessment of the regional transportation system.
