Abstract:The purpose of this research is to consider the Piedmont Atlantic Megaregion (PAM) with an emphasis on maintaining efficient future people and freight movements while offering multimodal solutions to moving people and freight to, between, and within the metropolitan economies of the megaregion. The needs, impacts, and benefits of high-speed intercity passenger rails are carefully examined and objectively quantified. The issues and themes that arise in the mega-region evolution and development context, including megaregional freight planning, social equity and health access issues, are discussed and addressed.
