• Abstract:
  This Traffic Tech briefly summarizes a study examining motorcycle vehicle miles traveled (VMT) as indicated by odometer readings taken from vehicle inspection records. Obtaining data on vehicle exposure is necessary for tracking safety trends and assessing the effectiveness of safety countermeasures. Motorcycle exposure has been historically difficult to capture. This project estimated motorcycle VMT in three States by reviewing inspection records generated when motorcycles were inspected and odometer readings were recorded. Most motorcycles in the study accumulated low mileage, about 2,000 miles per year.
