Abstract:The purpose of this research included maintaining Caltrans’ existing Mobile Terrestrial Laser Scanning (MTLS) capability and capacity in Northern California and expanding Caltrans’ MTLS capability and capacity in Central and Southern California. The research methods included training Central and Southern California surveyors, providing deployment support for Central and Southern California, executing case studies for MTLS pilot projects, assessing agency needs to determine whether to share the existing MTLS system or to procure another one, updating MTLS specifications based on previous findings, and evaluating Central and Southern California IT resource needs for MTLS post-processing. AHMCT researchers worked with the Caltrans Office of Land Surveys as well as Caltrans districts in this project. The researchers also updated MTLS specifications in support of procurement and provided advice for the new MTLS system installation.
