Abstract:The U.S. Committee on the Marine Transportation System (CMTS) in partnership with the Transportation Research Board (TRB) held the Sixth Biennial Marine Innovative Science and Technology Conference, “Advancing the Maritime Transportation System through Automation and Autonomous Technology: Trends, Applications, and Challenges,” virtually on March 15-17, 2021. The conference was rescheduled from its original 2020 date to a virtual format due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Over this three-day forum, 10 general breakout sessions with over 50 experts from government, academia, and industry shared expertise on topics ranging from autonomous ships and technologies to maritime data access, port and harbor automation, digital twins, autonomous drivers and challenges, and use of point data. Over 130 representatives from academia, federal agencies, and private industries participated in the virtual event.
