Abstract:In supporting State Departments of Transportation (DOTs) and metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) in using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is publishing this Case Study Report focusing on the use of data collection technologies by transportation agencies to collect and manage geospatial asset and performance data. To gather information for this report, the U.S. DOT Volpe National Transportation Systems Center interviewed three State DOTs and developed a case study focusing on their experiences. The purpose of this document is for State DOTs and MPOs to consider the approach that these agencies have used in employing data collection for asset and performance management to reduce a duplication of efforts and learn notable practices from peer agencies.
