• Abstract:
  Like the national fuel tax, state fuel taxes face problems of declining real revenue due to inflation and improvements in fuel efficiency. This report examines state fuel tax levels, how states have responded in the past decade to maintain transportation funding, and how the nature of freight transportation means alternatives to fuel taxes might benefit from cooperation at the megaregional level.
