The purpose of this document is to present a five-year program plan for USDOT’s AI for ITS Program. It is a companion document to the five-year roadmap and provides recommendations on investments and program activities to be conducted in the next five years to put the program on the path to promoting operational AI deployments by the end of the decade. The program plan is meant to be a living document to be updated periodically in concert with the roadmap. The AI for ITS Program is a multimodal, multi-agency effort led by ITS Joint Program Office (JPO) with support from Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Volpe Center, and other Federal partners.
