Abstract:

In response to the Congressional direction given in the Surface Transportation Assistance Act of 1982, this report proveds motor vehicle traffic accident data which may be used, together with other relevant information, in evaluating and comparing the highway safety performance of the States. it is not the purpose of this report to present either a detailed analysis of the data or a completed evaluation or comparison of State highway safety performance. The test of the report is primarily technical detail and background information which may assist those who analyze or interpret the statistical tables and graphs.
