  • Abstract:
The mission of the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is to enable

the safe and efficient movement of people and goods by fostering a robust multimodal transportation system, including highways, airports, public transit, bicycle/pedestrian facilities, railroads, and navigable waterways. To further this mission, TDOT is committed to integrating a risk-based asset management approach into its business practices, the primary objective being to improve the management of its transportation assets over time, increase transparency in agency decision-making, and promote accountability with Tennessee taxpayers.

Of critical importance, the approach will allow the department to transition to policy-driven management strategies that clearly define what assets need to be improved, timeframes for effective improvement, and realistic priorities for the department given available revenues.
