Abstract:The mission of the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is to provide a safe, efficient, cost-effective transportation system. To further this mission, ADOT is committed to integrating asset management into its business model. This commitment reflects ADOT’s desire to continually improve how it manages its transportation assets over their whole life. In support of the improvement process, ADOT conducted a transportation asset management (TAM) gap assessment for highway assets as part of a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) project. The FHWA is assisting 10 state DOTs with this type of assessment. ADOT’s objectives for the assessment were to compare current practices to the state-of-the-art, identify and prioritize gaps, and define a set of activities for addressing the highest priority gaps. This report documents the assessment and provides implementation guidance.
