Abstract:In 2000, 4,739 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes in the United States - a decrease of 27 percent from the 6,482 pedestrians killed in 1990. On average, a pedestrian is killed in a traffic crash every 111 minutes. There were 78,000 pedestrians injured in traffic crashes in 2000. The tables in this fact sheet break down the statistics as to age, sex, time and day of week, alcohol involvement and by state. 2 Figures, 6 tables.
