Abstract:

By their nature, ITS products and services are most effective when integrated within a metropolitan area. Achieving this integration of systems, however, requires the cooperation and coordination of many jurisdictions and agencies that are responsible for transportation management within the metropolitan area. This case study describes the actions taken in the New York-New Jersey-Connecticut metropolitan area that promoted cooperation among multiple agencies and led to the successful implementation of the TRANSMIT (TRANSCOM's system for managing incidents and traffic) operational test.
