Abstract:

The Information Search task for the I- 70 Rural IVHS Corridor Planning and Feasibility Analysis involved an investigation of ITS technologies and applications, with emphasis on advanced transportation management and advanced traveler information systems, that have high potential for implementation within the I-70 West Corridor from Denver to Glenwood Springs. Collection of background information (physical, social, environmental, organizational, and event-related) was necessary to associate and evaluate the proficiency of a technology and/or application to serve a problem or need within the I-70 West Corridor. While a large part of the Information Search activities concentrated on gathering data about advanced technologies and their respective applications, the research had an equally strong focus on the institutional framework supporting the transportation system. Many opportunities for improving the effectiveness of a transportation system can be achieved through management and operational efficiencies. 171 p. ; figures ; tables
