The purpose of this research was to develop a computerized model to predict soil properties stabilized using additives such as lime, cement kiln dust, and flyash. Properties were based on specified soils using the Nebraska Group Index (NGI). The model is able to predict the maximum laboratory density and optimum moisture content for native soils. It will also predict the soil properties of NGI soils stabilized with pozzolan additives, including maximum laboratory density, optimum moisture content, unconfined compressive strength, and modified plasticity index. A review of the literature demonstrated that it is very possible to create a soil prediction model through specialized software applications like artificial neural networks. The research team and the Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR) elected to use Microsoft Excel 2007 to create the model due to ease of use and the commonality of the program within NDOR staff.
