Abstract:Not enough is known about the impact of transportation infrastructure on citizen satisfaction and quality of life. This study will be interdisciplinary involving Public Policy, Public Administration, and Political Science. Measuring against a baseline data set created in 1993, this study will examine change in Northwest Arkansas citizens' attitudes toward recent improvements in both ground and air transportation infrastructure including the opening of the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport and Interstate 540. Our primary research hypothesis is that residents of Northwest Arkansas support increased growth in this area, but may be experiencing higher levels of uncertainty as their community changes in the transition from a rural to a more urban corridor. The methodology will be a mail survey sent to residents of Northwest Arkansas, and to expand on the 1993 research, we will also send the survey instrument to a selected group of public officials and policy decision makers in Northwest Arkansas. The results of this study will be made available to survey participants, local decision makers, and the larger research community.
