Abstract:Transportation Technology Center, Inc., with funding from the Federal Railroad Administration, developed the radio frequency (RF) network design of the 220 MHz Positive Train Control (PTC) RF network for three selected dense urban areas: Chicago, Kansas City, and Dallas/Fort Worth. This included: 1) Generating the RF network design plan, including all railroads that require PTC operations within the boundaries of the study with detailed configuration of site selections. 2) Generating predicted coverage range, resolution of predicted interference levels among all sites and generation of frequency reuse plan and timeslot assignments for all sites (base stations and wayside sites) for the entire study area. 3) Developing software tools and special engineering analysis to resolve challenging issues faced during the development of the project. 4) Identifying specific solutions required to address issues that failed the criteria for interoperable train control requirements with standard design methods.
