Abstract:Final report for Positive Train Control (PTC) Desense Mitigation Test Research project includes description of Northeast Corridor (NEC) PTC deployments, PTC radio desense scenarios, PTC radio desense mitigation approaches, PTC radio desense mitigation trade study, and recommendations. The trade study identified adaptive interference canceller (AIC) technology and radio frequency (RF) filters, hardened to withstand locomotive environmental conditions, as solutions with the potential to mitigate each of the PTC radio desense scenarios affecting locomotives operating on the NEC, with minimal impact of existing PTC system hardware and software. Signal cancellation via phased antenna placement was identified as a method that can be used in conjunction with either AIC technology or RF filters to enhance PTC radio desense mitigation performance.
