Abstract:This report (FHWA-RD-98-155), the first of a four-volume set of reports, presents guidelines and recommendations to assist a highway agency in developing and using performance-related specifications for portland cement concrete pavement construction. Included in this report are revised and improved performance-related specifications initially developed under a previous research contract. Using these recommended performance-related specifications, a highway agency can, upon construction, predict the performance of a pavement and forecast the pavement's life-cycle costs. The benefits to the agency from using such specifications can be significant. This report will be of interest to engineers concerned with quality assurance, specifications, and construction of concrete pavements.
