Abstract:This document is the first of a seven volume report that describes performance requirements for connected vehicle
vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) Safety Applications developed for the U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT).
The applications addressed here include Curve Speed Warning (CSW), Red Light Violation Warning (RLVW), Reduced
Speed Zone Warning with Lane Closure (RSZW/LC), Spot Weather Information Warning – Reduced Speed (SWIW-RS), Spot Weather Information Warning – Diversion (SWIW-D), and Stop Sign Gap Assist (SSGA). These safety
applications integrate roadside and in-vehicle advisories, alerts and warnings to make the driver aware of hazards in
time to take action to prevent a potential crash. Performance requirements are specified for both infrastructure- and
vehicle-based components of the applications to ensure that roadside and in-vehicle driver messages are coordinated
and consistent. This volume provides an introduction to the six V2I Safety Applications and performance requirements
and resource information that are common to all six applications. Performance requirements specific to individual
applications are provided in Volumes 2 through 7 of this report.
