• Abstract:
  Traffic safety has become one of the most critical issues facing transportation agencies across the nation. In 2006, about 43,000 people were killed, and another 290,000 were seriously injured in crashes on public roadways in the United States. According to a study by the American Automobile Association, traffic crashes in urban areas cost $164 billion in 2005, including the costs of property damage, lost earnings, medical treatment, emergency services, pain and lost quality of life, and other costs.
