This study examines the outlets structures CDOT has historically employed to drain water quality treatment detention basins and flood control basins, presents two new methods of metering the water quality capture volume (WQCV), namely 1) the Elliptical Slot Weir alternative and 2) the Maximized Orifice Area alternative. The study also develops new sizing guidance for the overflow outlet, and new design software that should be very helpful to CDOT and its contractors. The report documents the findings of mathematical and physical hydraulic models, presents new equations and mathematical functions to help CDOT better design these facilities, presents new design methods and software tools, and provides an overview of a new Colorado statute that CDOT must comply with regarding all stormwater detention and infiltration facilities.
A new procedure was developed to design a sediment forebay at the entrance of a stormwater detention basin. It was found that the geometry of the fore...
Because designers have many options in designing runoff systems, the researchers studied and simulated many scenarios. They considered five Florida re...
