Abstract:Course CEE 411 "Railway Project Design and Construction" is a cornerstone of the railway
engineering education program developed by the Rail Transportation and Engineering Center
(RailTEC) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Prior to this project, many
elements of the course dated to its initial offering in 2008. This project developed new and revised
course materials to expand coverage of key concepts that influence the design and construction of
railway projects. A specific focus of the effort was to incorporate rail-specific CAD design software
(MicroStation and Bentley RailTrack) into the course lectures and assignments for the first time.
