Abstract:

The focus of this evaluation was to determine if the Advantage I-75 Mainline Automated Clearance Systems (MACS) produced significant fuel savings for motor carriers. The fundamental hypothesis tested was that the reduction or elimination of stops at weigh stations by truckers equipped with transponders will result in measurable fuel savings for each equipped vehicle. The report describes the fuel consumption test scenarios, planning and scheduling, weigh station design, test summaries, and data analysis.
