Abstract:

Foundations for sign structures are subjected primarily to overturning loads, but published methods for designing driven pile groups only address groups subjected either to compression or uplift, not both simultaneously. A lateral load test of two four-pile groups therefore was conducted to evaluated load transfer among the piles, especially as the groups approach failure, and to evaluate potential design implications.
