Abstract:This document discusses the rationale, procedures, results, discussion and conclusions of the Seattle Wide-area Information for Travelers (SWIFT) Communications Study evaluation that was conducted for the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). Included are background explanations of the issues involved in researching, planning and conducting the coverage testing that was conducted as part of this evaluation. For the purposes of this report, testing was accomplished using the SWIFT High Speed Data System (HSDS) as it was deployed in the Seattle, WA area by Seiko and configured to provide traffic incident, speed/congestion and real-time bus position information to test participants during the SWIFT field operational test evaluation.
