It provides general information on ITS and the National ITS Architecture with respect to transit, and highlights the benefits of each. Section 2 briefly discusses the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA), which led to the National ITS Program and the National ITS Architecture. Section 3 provides an overview of ITS, examples of ITS applications for transit, benefits of transit ITS, and examples of where these benefits have accrued.
