Abstract:This report outlines the design and development of a web-based data distribution system for brownfield site redevelopment in Toledo-Lucas County, Ohio. The system is designed to advance smart growth initiatives by creating the link between transportation infrastructure, economic development and the sustainable utilization of brownfield sites in the region. Smart growth is part of a new mobility trend to support economic redevelopment and part of a broad national effort to reduce urban sprawl, reduce congestion, and to use public resources with greater efficiency. The Lucas County Brownfield system developed here is a comprehensive data delivery tool that can assist policymakers and stakeholders with capital investment decisions to encourage smart growth within the region through the economic redevelopment of brownfield sites. It is envisioned that this web-based system will be a resource for commercial real estate developers, government officials and other regional brownfield redevelopment stakeholders.
