THE OBJECTIVE AND SUBJECTIVE RESULTS OBTAINED THIS YEAR ARE FROM A POPULATION OF 36 DRIVER-PARTICIPANTS THAT WAS BALANCED FOR GENDER, AGE, AND EXPERIENCE WITH CRUISE CONTROL. THESE RESULTS INDICATE THAT THE BASELINE SYSTEM OPERATES WELL ON U.S. FREEWAYS, AND THAT THE PERFORMANCE OBTAINED WITH THIS SYSTEM WILL BE USEFUL AS A BENCHMARK FOR COMPARISON WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF FUTURE ACC SYSTEMS. IN GENERAL, MOST OF THE DRIVER-PARTICIPANTS LIKED DRIVING WITH THIS BASELINE ACC SYSTEM. GIVEN THAT THE RESULTS OBTAINED WITH THE BASELINE SYSTEM ARE USEFUL, THERE NOW EXISTS AN EXTENSIVE DATABASE WHICH CONTAINS NEW KNOWLEDGE ABOUT DRIVING AND THE INTELLIGENT CONTROL OF VEHICLE DYNAMICS.<
