Abstract:This report covers two aspects of an agency-wide assessment of the FAA Management Training School (MTS) program. The first part of the report considers the evaluation of MTS by approximately 10% of the Supervisory and Managerial Training Course graduates. It was found that supervisors and managers held similar views of MTS: Most felt that the program had been useful in helping them to meet the demands of their supervisory/managerial positions.
The responses of the graduates indicated areas in which improvement could be effected within the MTS framework. The second part of the report presents the findings concerning the impact of MTS on the behavior of course graduates. It was found that MTS training resulted in an increase in desirable on-the-job activities of MTS graduates, as judged by the graduates themselves, their supervisors, and their employees. Those who had attended MTS entered training with supervisory/managerial skills somewhat below the level of those of the individuals who had not yet attended and they returned to perform at a somewhat higher level than those without the MTS experience.
