A new device which is small, completely self-contained, and which is not susceptible to tumbling, is evaluated. The results indicate that it will enable controlled flight under complete loss of outside visual reference (IFR) conditions. Since no electrical, vacuum or mechanical activation sources are required, the Kenyon instrument can be used in any aircraft (piston, turbine or glider) as an emergency blind flight instrument.
