This project is a continuation of earlier work performed by Montana State University (Jennings et al. 2007) evaluating compost application on, and incorporation into, soils on steep cut slopes for the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT). The earlier work evaluated compost application at rates of 2.54 cm (1 in) and 5.08 cm (2 in). It also evaluated the relative effectiveness of surface-applied compost blankets versus compost incorporated into the surface soil.
Three different depths of compost and five compost retention techniques were tested to determine their efficacy and cost effectiveness for increasing
