Abstract:In the last several years, Washington State has adopted a series of policy goals intended to reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs). Because transportation is one of the state’s largest sources of GHG emissions, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has been asked to identify ways to reduce Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) statewide, and subject to a separate set of state-mandated goals for VMT reduction. Other local governments, such as King County and the City of Seattle, have established their own goals.
