Abstract:This project focused on two key areas. The first was taking a snapshot of current best practices
in regard to during-storm liquid applications for snow and ice control. The project learned “why”,
“where”, “when” and “how” the during-storm application approach is used effectively. The
second key area was determining and recommending field tests that are needed to help validate
and improve the best practices. The project was accomplished primarily via engagement of
subject matter expert practitioners from across the United States. The pool of experts also
included international expert practitioners, MDSS (weather forecasting) experts, and airport
snow and ice control experts.
