      Sandra Larson, director, Iowa DOT Research and Technology Bureau, welcomes attendees to the workshop and speaks on how research ideas are generated and implemented worldwide. She introduces Mark Lowe.

      Mark Lowe, director, Iowa DOT Motor Vehicle Division, speaks on the diversity of perspectives relating to safety between various transportation personnel and the relationship between distracted drivers, safety, and crashes.

      Shashi Nambisan, director, Iowa State University Institute for Transportation Research (InTrans), welcomes attendees to the workshop; announces the name change of Iowa State University's Center for Transportation Research and Education (CTRE) to the Institute for Transportation Research (InTrans). He speaks on research opportunities and the challenges of Human Factors related to safety in transportation. Shashi Nambisan introduces Keynote Speaker Dan McGehee.

      Keynote Speaker Dan McGehee, University of Iowa, speaks on teen driver research at the University of Iowa; how teen drivers benefit from Event Trigger Video systems that provide feedback to teens and parents to help them focus on improving driving skills and awareness.

      Sandra Larson introduces Tom Welch, Iowa DOT State Safety Engineer.

      Tom Welch, Iowa DOT Highway Division Safety Engineer, speaks on contributing factors of driver behavior in fatal crashes and provides new and innovative ideas that contribute to preventing crashes and how driver behavior is the major factor in fatal crashes ninety percent of the time.

      Kin Snook, director, Iowa DOT Office of Driver's Services, introduces Essie Wagner, program analyst, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

      Essie Wagner, program analyst, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Safety Countermeasures Division, speaks on national perspectives on safety and how her division's work involves translating research into useful tools to enhance safety; how Iowa's leadership in developing methods and technologies to mitigate crashes is key in providing useful information to the rest of the country and abroad.
