Abstract:This handbook describes notable practices used by State departments of transportation (State DOTs), metropolitan planning
organizations (MPOs), transit agencies, and other transportation planning partners which work across jurisdictions or
traditional disciplines in order to enhance transportation planning at a regional scale. It provides a framework for how to think
about regional cooperation opportunities, 20 case studies of how and why peer agencies have chosen to work together, and
tools and resources agencies may consider adapting for use in their own regions. The handbook was developed as part of
the Every Day Counts 3 Regional Models of Cooperation initiative.
