Abstract:The report outlines an experiment conducted at a compliance center to gain information on relating a tire's thermal performance during testing, to tire failure. To substantiate this correlation, the instrumentation used is described as well as the method of data retrieval. The tires were inspected by various non-destructive tests before and after compliance testing. The population of inspected tires was inadequate for general conclusions about the relationship between temperature and failure but the data obtained indicates the technique shows promise. The experiment found a definite relationship between the number of tires being run of a test wheel and the thermal stress applied to those tires. (Author)
