Abstract:The analytical development and appropriate derivations are presented for a simulation model of vehicle crashworthiness prediction. Incremental equations governing the nonlinear elasto-plastic dynamic response of three-dimensional frame structures are derived, where the associated stiffness and compatibility matrices also incorporate large geometry changes. A discussion of yield criteria is given, together with bound type estimates for thin walled cross section beams. The Newmark beta method is then used to solve the equations of motion, and is oriented toward the particular incremental equations typical of the present application.
