Abstract:This report summarizes research results from the Rollover Data Special Study (RODSS) project. The research encompassed the ; design of a RODSS database for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, review of the RODSS data to evaluate the ; quality of the data collected and whether they can support crash safety evaluations, and analysis of detailed rollover crash data ; records to assess the effectiveness of recent safety features in light vehicles (e.g., passenger cars, sport utility vehicles, minivans, ; vans, and light pickup trucks) in minimizing the occurrence of rollover crashes and in mitigating occupant injuries that result ; from such crashes. These safety features include rollover protection that includes sensors to trigger inflatable side curtain air ; bags to mitigate occupant injuries, electronic stability control to reduce loss of yaw control, and roll stability control to minimize ; the number of rollover crashes.
