This Traffic Tech briefly summarizes a major report on the methods and results of a nationally representative survey of U.S. adults to investigate knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding drowsy driving. The National Survey of Drowsy Driving Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behaviors sampled 10,700 U.S. adults to investigate knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding drowsy driving. Using the theory of planned behavior as framework, this study compared the national sample and the State oversamples to better understand the effects of laws and public education campaigns related to drowsy driving. The results of that survey may be useful to traffic safety stakeholders aiming to develop or target behavioral countermeasures intended to reduce the incidence of drowsy driving.
