• Description:
  The Hamburg wheel-tracking device is known to be very sensitive to aggregate quality. It was considered important to investigate how the asphalt-aggregate interaction can influence the results. The purpose of this report is to identify the influence of the asphalt-aggregate interaction by using results from the Hamburg wheel-tracking device. Ten grading AC-10 asphalt cements were used from four refineries who supply asphalt in Colorado that used various refining processes and crude oil sources. The refining process and crude oil sources do influence the test results from the Hamburg wheel-tracking device. Each refinery was able to produce an asphalt cement that passed in the Hamburg wheel-tracking device with the better aggregates.
