There is presently significant understaffing and turnover of staff specializing in Hydrology and Hydraulics (H&H) within agencies overseeing transportation infrastructure. To gain an understanding of the present state of knowledge and training among H&H staff across the transportation industry, surveys were carried out to evaluate the effectiveness and perceptions of training, resources, mentoring, and approaches for knowledge transfer for H&H staff in DOTs across the United States (including TxDOT), as well as in other government agencies and private sector firms. Over one hundred survey responses underwent evaluation to determine current effective training practices and identify innovative approaches to improve H&H training, in order to provide recommendations on best practices moving forward.
