• Abstract:
  The goal of this project is to identify and develop artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled strategies that enhance arterial traffic management while addressing the operational needs and priorities of transportation agencies. The project begins by identifying high-value applications of AI and machine learning (ML) through an extensive literature review and engagement with Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSM&O) practitioners and signal control managers. It then evaluates the performance measures that can be derived from a variety of transportation data sources and assess ses their ability to support data-driven traffic management. Building on these findings, the project develops ML models to support both offline planning and real-time operational decision-making and evaluates their performance through representative case studies to assess s their effectiveness and applicability for real-world deployment.
