Abstract:

This notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) proposes average fuel economy standards for model years (MY) 1982-1985 for two-wheel drive (4x2) and four-wheel drive (4x4) light trucks. Single values of 17.4 miles per gallon (mpg) for 4x2's and 15.6 mpg for 4x4's are proposed for MY 1982, whereas a range of values are proposed for MYs 1983-85. Vehicles subject to this rulemaking include pickup trucks, vans, and general utility vehicles which are 8,500 pounds gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) or less, have a curb weight of 6,000 pounds or less, and a frontal area of 45 square feet or less.
