The purpose of this activity was to investigate the feasibility of using RS-232 devices in a party line configuration. This information would be useful in field operations of Remote Maintenance Monitoring Systems (RMMS) since it is one approach to using a single communication line to service several different devices. The utilization of such a party line configuration, as proposed with RS-232 devices, would be an efficient and innovative use of RS-232 devices beyond their present field capability.
