Abstract:Frost that forms on the surface of wings with fuel remaining in integrated fuel tanks following a flight is referred to as cold soaked fuel frost. Frost roughness was characterized using two experimental facilities which provided different methods for capturing the thermodynamic environment representing the cold soaked fuel frost growth process. A photogrammetric approach was developed to measure frost roughness and used in each facility. Modeling approaches were developed to predict the evolution of cold-soaked fuel frost roughness characteristics.
