Abstract:

As a preventive strategy, the most cost effective anti-icing method is to spread a chemical (liquid, solid, or pre-wetted solid) on the road before freezing precipitation starts, or soon after it begins, but always before a bond can be formed between the pavement and the ice or snow-pack.
